Veluvanto vs Dropbox

Cloud storage vs. cloud document management. Dropbox stores your files. Veluvanto understands them. Here's the full comparison.

Last updated April 2026

The Verdict

  • Dropbox is cloud storage with excellent file sync. It stores your files, syncs them across devices, and makes sharing easy — but it doesn't know what's inside your documents.
  • Veluvanto is a cloud DMS that reads and organizes your documents. It uses AI to classify, tag, and search every document by content — not just file name.
  • Bottom line: Dropbox stores your files. Veluvanto understands them.

How We Compared

We use Veluvanto daily for document management and tested Dropbox Plus ($11.99/mo plan) in April 2026. We uploaded the same set of 50 documents (invoices, contracts, receipts, and tax forms) to both services and evaluated setup time, organization, search accuracy, and how quickly we could find a specific document.

Veluvanto classified all 50 documents automatically — assigning tags, extracting dates and amounts, and making every document searchable by content within minutes. Dropbox stored the files in the folder structure we chose, but finding a specific invoice required remembering the file name or browsing folders manually.

On the other hand, Dropbox synced a 180 MB presentation file across two devices in under 15 seconds thanks to block-level sync. Veluvanto doesn't offer device sync at all — it's a web-based DMS, not a file sync tool. For large file workflows, Dropbox is clearly faster and more capable.

Storage vs. Management: The Core Difference

Dropbox was built to solve file sync — making sure you have the same files on every device. It does this exceptionally well. But it treats every file the same way: as a blob of data with a name and a location in a folder.

Veluvanto was built to solve document management — understanding what your documents contain and organizing them intelligently. When you upload a PDF, Veluvanto reads it, extracts the text, identifies the document type, and generates searchable metadata. Dropbox just stores the file.

Pricing: Transparent Plans vs. Tiered Storage

Dropbox's free tier offers just 2 GB — barely enough for a few hundred documents. The Plus plan at $11.99/mo gives you 2 TB of storage but adds no document management features. Team plans use per-user pricing that scales quickly.

Veluvanto starts free with 1 GB storage and 100 AI credits. Paid plans start from €9/mo excl. VAT with no per-user pricing — up to 20 workspace members are included. Every plan includes AI classification, OCR, full-text search, and approval workflows.

Privacy & Data Location

Dropbox stores data primarily in the United States. While they offer data residency options for enterprise customers, personal and small team accounts are US-hosted by default. Dropbox is subject to US data access laws.

Veluvanto stores all data exclusively in the EU and is operated by a Czech EU company. AI processing runs on Google Vertex AI on EU servers. No data leaves the EU. For users who care about data sovereignty and GDPR compliance, the difference is significant.

Where Dropbox Wins

Dropbox is genuinely better than Veluvanto in several areas. Its block-level sync is best-in-class — when you edit a 200 MB file, only the changed bytes are uploaded, not the entire file. Dropbox also offers native desktop and mobile apps with full offline access, something Veluvanto doesn't have. For creative teams working with large video files, design assets, or CAD drawings, Dropbox's file transfer feature (up to 100 GB) and Replay tool for video review are capabilities Veluvanto simply doesn't offer.

Dropbox also has deeper third-party integrations — over 750 apps including Slack, Zoom, Salesforce, and Adobe Creative Cloud. If your workflow depends on real-time file collaboration across many tools, Dropbox's ecosystem is more mature. Veluvanto focuses specifically on document management (invoices, contracts, tax forms) and doesn't try to be a general-purpose file platform.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I migrate from Dropbox to Veluvanto?
Yes. Download your documents from Dropbox and upload them to Veluvanto. AI will automatically classify, tag, and organize every imported document — no manual folder recreation needed. For large collections, batch upload makes the process straightforward.
Can I use Veluvanto and Dropbox together?
Absolutely. Many users keep Dropbox for file sync (photos, videos, project files) and use Veluvanto for document management (invoices, contracts, insurance, tax documents). The two tools complement each other — Dropbox for storage and sync, Veluvanto for organization and search.
Does Dropbox have AI features?
Dropbox has introduced Dash 2.0, which is primarily a universal search tool across connected apps. It doesn't auto-classify documents or generate metadata. Veluvanto's AI reads every document, generates tags and metadata, and makes content searchable — a fundamentally different approach.
Is Dropbox or Veluvanto better for teams?
It depends on what your team needs. For file sharing and real-time collaboration on creative projects, Dropbox is excellent. For managing business documents with approval workflows, AI organization, and content search, Veluvanto is the better fit. Dropbox uses per-user pricing on team plans; Veluvanto includes up to 20 members with no per-user fees.
Which is more private — Dropbox or Veluvanto?
Veluvanto offers stronger privacy guarantees for EU users: all data stored in the EU, Czech EU company, AI processing on EU servers, no US data access. Dropbox is US-hosted by default and subject to US jurisdiction. For GDPR compliance and data sovereignty, Veluvanto has a clear advantage.
